Balti Cuisine

Birmingham is now known as the Capital of the Balti, and Kolkata Lounge is a perfect place to sample this unique dish.

The food 'Balti' is named after the special, flat based wok like pot in which it is cooked. The Balti was first introduced to Birminghams "Balti Triangle" in the 1970's, through Pakistani and Kashmiri communities. The world famous hot curry-style dish has swept into the taste buds of the nation. Balti is traditionally served sizzling with a large naan bread which is used to scoop up this tasty dish.

Whilst the traditional Curry has distinctive tastes and varying degrees of hotness, the Balti serves a flavour and zest that accommodates most appetites. Kolkata lounge's own special recipe of  fresh meat and/or vegetables are marinated and then cooked with extra herbs and aromatic spices of North India. Such spices include cumin, cardamom, coriander, cloves, cassia bark and ginger. The Balti is fast cooked over a high flame providing the Balti with a unique taste. A Balti at Kolkata Lounge can be tailored on an individual basis.

Our cooking style ensures that the dish retains its full goodness, remaining reasonably light yet filling.

Kolkata Lounge is fully licenced unlike many other Balti houses, enabaling you to have everything provided for your enjoyable and relaxing meal. At Kolkata Lounge you can be sure of a welcome as warm as your Balti!
